Cliff Portraits
Poddąbie Cliffs, named after the nearby village of Poddąbie, are located on the edge of the Słowiński National Park on the Baltic coast, east of Ustka town. Violent natural forces have created the cliffs, and now they offer a unique visual variety that contrasts strongly with the uniform and flat landscape of the sea.
Deciduous forest, full of beech trees, strengthens the tallest cliffs. Further into the land, strong oaks and more popular pine trees can be found. Interestingly, Baltic shores in this area have north-west exposure, which is not typical in Poland. For that reason, sunlight can penetrate the forests almost horizontally, providing exceptional lighting until sunset.
This region is famous not only for the cliffs but also for the beeches that attract sunbathers with their delicate sands. However, during the summer, people typically look at the waves instead of the cliffs behind them. So now, let’s turn around to look at the steep slopes, bushes, and trees growing at the edge of the cliffs. Occasionally, you can spot some signs of human presence there as well.
Poddąbie Cliffs are so distinct that they deserve their individual Cliff Portraits.
